Marriage at an approved premise requires the presence of two Registration Officers and it is essential that the couple establish the availability of Registration staff for their chosen date, before making definite arrangements for their wedding at the Approved Premise.
Once availability of Registration staff has been established, the couple must give their Notice of Marriage to the Superintendent Registrar of the registration district in which they reside.
A Notice of Marriage must be given in person, by both parties to the marriage. The Notice is valid for 12 months only. If the proposed marriage is more than 12 months away, a provisional booking can be made by contacting the appointment line 01522 782244.
The couple should be advised that a marriage at an Approved Premise is entirely Civil and must have no religious connotations whatsoever.
Consequently, due regard must be given to any proposed music, readings or performances which are to form part of the ceremony. These must be purely of a secular nature and should be approved in advance by the Registrar who is attending the ceremony.
Any rights of copyright for music, readings etc, which are to form part of the ceremony are a matter for the parties to the marriage and the Approved Premise Licence holder.
